THE LAST SUMMER FLING
Departing: Sunday, August 26, 2018
4 Days
“This tour was designed after I spent a week exploring Wisconsin in 2017.  I have combined three great cities with amazing attractions plus time to relax on the shores of a beautiful lake.  A wonderful last summer fling!” -Annette
Daily Itinerary:
Day 1 Travel north to Kenosha, Wisconsin for our first stop.  The Civil War Museum is like no other Civil War museum in the country.  The museum focuses on the Civil War from the perspective of the people of the seven states of the upper middle west: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.  These seven states sent over one million men to serve in the Union army while providing much of the food and raw materials necessary for the northern states to carry on the war. Through the use of personal stories and narratives, the Museum also explores how the Civil War impacted the people on the Western home front before, during, and after the war by connecting the prewar causes to the postwar effects. Travel onto Delavan Lake and the Lake Lawn Resort, our home for three nights.  Along two miles of Delavan Lake’s shoreline, Lake Lawn Resort is an ultimate destination. Since opening their doors almost 140 years ago, this charming resort and historic grounds are the picturesque backdrop for memory making year after year.  Enjoy a relaxed dinner at the resort.
Day 2 Our day today will be all things Lake Geneva and will include: Geneva Lake Museum - Explore the Archaic and Potawatomi Indian artifacts, 19th century brick Main Street featuring historical residences, businesses, stage coach, sleigh, nautical vessels, exhibits on historic lakeshore estates, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Geneva Hotel artifacts and photographs, and Sydney Smith/Andy Gump exhibit. • Lake Geneva US Mailboat Cruise - Enjoy the famous Mailboat Tour.  There are only a hand full of places left in the country where mail is still delivered by boat.  An adventurous Mailperson leaps off the boat onto residents’ piers, deposits mail and grabs outgoing mail, and jumps back aboard. The only catch is, the boat never stops! • Shopping in Lake Geneva - The original downtown with historic buildings housing great shops and restaurants. Dinner at a local favorite.
Day 3 Our day takes us through the Wisconsin countryside and include: Black Point Estate and Gardens - Evokes the sense of a time and place when urban Chicago families escaped to Wisconsin to spend lazy summer days entertaining guests on the wrap-around porch or sailing on Geneva Lake.  Explore the elegant trappings of this magnificent summer estate built by Chicago beer baron Conrad Seipp in 1888 as a family getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Today’s guests arrive at Black Point by boat, just as the family did in a bygone era. • Stop and Smell the Roses - The owner has been nurturing his rose garden since he was 70 years old.  Through a little trial and error, he now has 400 rose bushes and a lot of curious visitors. Stroll among the 14 raised beds with a pond complete with a waterfall and bridge. • Ten Chimney’s Estate - The estate lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.  Those who visit, like guests of the Lunts, are welcomed into the Lunts' extraordinary home without the fuss of ropes or barriers. Tours of Ten Chimneys not only celebrate the one-of-a-kind collection the Lunts amassed during their lifetimes, but also honor the values found in every corner of the Lunts' lives, both on the stage and in the house they called home for more than half a century.  Enjoy dinner at a traditional Wisconsin Supper Club.
Day 4 Depart our beautiful resort traveling to Racine, Wisconsin and our morning adventure at Lehmann’s Bakery.  Their pastry dough is rolled and folded to create more than 48 layers.  Made the old fashioned way, by hand from scratch, their Kringles were voted Racine’s best and recognized as “the dough that made Racine famous.”  Made fresh and shipped daily all over the country, Lehmann’s Bakery offers more than 36 rich Danish Kringle flavors with a variety of fruit, nut, and gourmet fillings.  Shop for cheese at Mar’s Cheese Castle before starting our journey home.  Lunch and rest stops have us arriving mid evening.
