Meet our friend and guide Dea Hoover for a fun filled day touring and dining in Kimmswick, Missouri. We have never visited here before.
Anheuser Estate - The private country home tour of the last descendents of Ebenezer Anheuser. • The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery Extravaganza - A cooking demonstration with the owner, a cookbook, and a full lunch with a huge dessert. You may have seen Mary on Road Tasted with Paula Deen’s sons or in Oprah’s Magazine in November of 2011 when her Mile High Levee Apple Pie made one of Oprah’s Favorite Things. One thing for sure is, she knows how to cook! In 1983, Mary Hostetter came out with a cookbook, From the Kitchen of Mary, with recipes for an assortment of pastries, cookies, cakes, cheesecakes, pies and candies. She sold at craft shows, festivals and fairs. As demand continued to grow, Mary set out to find a location to combine her successful baking business with a country tearoom. In 1985, Mary set eyes on the The Blue Owl Restaurant in this historic river town. She dreamed that some day folks would have to wait in line for a table at The Blue Owl, and that dream quickly became a reality. • Kimmswick Historical Society - See the movie sharing the story of Kimmswick’s revitalization by 7Up heiress, Lucianna Gladney Ross.
