We love to head north in the summer in search of cooler temperatures. This year we decided to explore an area that we have not explored in years. We combined two historic homes with a handful of other Wisconsin treasures.

FEATURES:  House on the Rock - The "house" itself is atop Deer Shelter Rock, a column of rock approximately 60 by 70 feet, by 200 feet on the top, which stands in a forest nearby. Additions were made to the original structure and other buildings added over the course of several decades. The complex now features "The Streets of Yesterday", a re-creation of an early twentieth century American town; "The Heritage of the Sea", featuring nautical exhibits and a 200-foot model of a fanciful whale-like sea creature battling a Kraken; "The Music of Yesterday", a huge collection of automatic music machines; and what the management bills as "the world's largest indoor carousel", among other attractions. The carousel at the House on the Rock features 269 carousel animals, 182 chandeliers, over 20,000 lights, and hundreds of mannequin angels hanging from the ceiling. The carousel, built in 1981, has no horses and cannot be ridden by visitors. The House on the Rock is a tourist attraction that opened in 1959, and s a complex of architecturally distinct rooms, streets, gardens, and shops designed by Alex Jordan Jr. • Taliesin - The name of Frank Lloyd Wright's Wisconsin home where he lived for nearly 50 years. It means "shining brow" in Welsh, in honor of his Welsh heritage, and is built on the "brow" of the hill in Wisconsin's Driftless region. Take a tour with us and immerse yourself in Taliesin’s unique mix of architecture, culture, nature, and agriculture in Spring Green, Wisconsin. Taliesin Preservation offers guided tours of Taliesin, the iconic home, studio, and 800-acre estate of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, located in Spring Green, Wisconsin. As part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, all ticket sales support the preservation of Taliesin’s cultural, architectural, and natural heritage. • Olbrich Botanical Gardens - A year-round destination for nature-lovers, green-thumbers, and respite-seekers. The Gardens, voted one of the top 10 most inspiring gardens in North America by Horticulture Magazine, sit on Madison’s eclectic, quirky eastside across from the expansive Olbrich Park.  Take in 14 outdoor gardens within the grounds, including the Rose Garden, the Herb Garden, the Meadow Garden and Serenity Garden. •  Wisconsin State Capitol - The first Wisconsin State Capitol building was in Belmont, WI in 1836 and legislature convened there for 42 days until Madison was chosen as the site for the Capitol building. The first Capitol building in Madison opened on the current site in 1837. In 1904 a fire destroyed the previous State Capitol building providing the opportunity to create a bigger and better Capitol building. Construction of the current building was completed in 1917 and used 43 types of stone from six countries and eight states. The dome is the largest by volume in the nation. Tour includes a museum and observation deck. •  The National Mustard Museum - One of Wisconsin’s most popular tourist spots, the golden summit for mustard lovers of all ages. Home to the world’s largest collection of mustards and mustard memorabilia.
