NEW YORK CITY

Departing: Sunday, July 30, 2023
4 Days
Personal Pace: 4
To truly experience the program and destination, you need to be able to participate in physical activities such as longer walking tours, walking over uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and periods of standing. Some of the touring days will be long and are fast paced.
New York City is a walking city and this tour is a Pace 4 and in the course of each day you will walk at least two miles as a group.  (More if you explore on your own.)  New York City is a fast paced city! We are required to enter and exit the motorcoach in less than three minutes.  In order to stay on schedule in New York City, we will be walking to and from certain attractions, meals, and the hotel.  This is faster than we can navigate on the motorcoach.  We will explore the city streets and diverse neighborhoods.  Walking to tour certain areas of the city, we are able to see and do more, as the neighborhoods are too small and congested for a motorcoach.  It is recommended that you be in good physical condition and able to walk and stand for long time frames without any problems.  If you find that this tour is too much for you or if the Tour Director feels that you are slowing the group down, a taxi cab will be summoned for you at your own expense.  This tour has secured airfare for the first 25 people and is not recommended for young children.

Daily Itinerary:
Sunday July 30  Board a TURNER motorcoach early in the morning for our transfer to Indianapolis International Airport.  Upon arrival at the airport, you are responsible for your baggage check in and fees. Fly to LaGuardia International Airport where we will be met by a local motorcoach to start our tour  of Upper Manhattan.  Enjoy a walk into Central Park and visit Strawberry Fields and some other beautiful parts of the park.  Other sites of interest will include the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, General Grant National Memorial, and Harlem.  Continue aboard our motorcoach to Times Square and our home for three nights - M Social Hotel.  Located at 226 West 52nd Street, this four-star hotel is situated right in the center of the excitement of the “Big Apple.”  Tonight, we will walk a few short blocks to a small bistro for a “Welcome to New York City” dinner.  The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy.

Monday July 31  We start our day by walking towards Rockefeller Center.  Our first stop is St. Patrick’s Cathedral for a visit inside to see the beautiful stained-glass windows.  Next, is a “backstage tour” of the Radio City Music Hall where we will learn about this historically famous music hall and meet a Rockette for pictures.  (A one hour walking tour with multiple levels of stairs.)  Our last tour of the day is Top of the Rock for amazing views of Manhattan, including the best views of Central Park and the Empire State Building.  We will complete our touring early afternoon and you are on your own the rest of the day and evening.  Dinner will be at your leisure at a place of your choice with included meal money.  (No motorcoach transportation will be provided today.)

Tuesday August 1  This morning we board our local motorcoach and travel to the tip of Manhattan to The Battery. We will board a ferry to Liberty Island “Statue of Liberty” National Monument.  This will be an outside viewing only with a chance to stroll the grounds and visit the gift shop.  We will reboard a ferry and travel to Ellis Island National Monument and explore the museum.  Reboard the ferry to return to The Battery.  This afternoon, we will visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum.  The historical exhibition has three parts:  Before 9/11, Day of 9/11, and After 9/11.  It tells the story of what happened on 9/11, including the events at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the story of Flight 93.  The exhibit explores the background leading up to the events and examines their aftermath and continuing implications. Our day together (depending on traffic) will end late afternoon, you are on your own the rest of the day and evening. Dinner will be at your leisure at a place of your choice with included meal money.

Wednesday August 2  Board our local motorcoach for a trip to Brooklyn and Coney Island.  Our driving tour of Brooklyn takes us through the neighborhoods to learn about the ethnic diversity and what makes the boroughs home.  Coney Island is well known for its amusement rides, the original Nathan’s Hot Dogs, boardwalk, and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.  Our time in New York will end late afternoon as we return to LaGuardia International Airport.  Upon arrival at the airport, you are responsible for your baggage check in and fees. Dinner will be at the airport with included meal money. Fly to Indianapolis International Airport.  Motorcoach to Terre Haute.

Broadway Shows:  Because of the multiple options and price ranges available, we chose not to include a Broadway musical.  Your option of times will be Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday Evening. (Monday is traditionally the "dark" day on Broadway, when theaters are closed so that performers and staff can have a day off. But some shows try to take advantage of the lack of competition that day by adding a Monday night performance.) If you would like to pre-arrange your Broadway musical, please visit broadway.com or broadwaybox.com or you may wait until the day of production and take a chance at the ticket booth in Times Square for discounted tickets.
