Shipshewana is home to the third largest Amish community in the United States.  This tour was created to wander the Flea Market and the Town of Shipshewana including Davis Mercantile plus explore the backroads to visit local Amish businesses. Along our journey we will visit an Amish home to learn about their wedding customs and enjoy a wedding feast.
 
FEATURES: Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market - There is no other place with as many bargains or cool finds. Come browse vendor booths located on nearly 40 acres in Indiana’s Amish Country on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from May through September. Find everything from home décor to clothes to tools and be sure to shop the “farmer’s market” for a selection of in-season plants and local produce.   • Davis Mercantile - Featuring over 24 shops located on four floors that are easily accessible by elevator. You’ll find craft shops, gifts, kids toys, apparel, candles, and more. • Lolly’s Fabrics - Features over 2500 bolts of the finest quilting material around • Shopping in downtown Shipshewana - Visit downtown Shipshewana where the streets are filled with shops & stores filled with crafts, apparel, food, quilts, jewelry, handbags, home décor and art.  There is something for everyone in each “home” converted into a shop.  Wander and explore for your favorite find and “must have” memory to take home. • Menno-Hof Amish Mennonite Interpretive Center - See and hear the Amish-Mennonite story at Menno-Hof, the perfect place to start your visit to Amish country. Centered amid park-like grounds, the complex was built by Amish and Mennonite craftsmen during an old-fashioned barn raising. Multimedia presentations, historical environments and colorful displays take you on a fascinating journey inside the unique world of the Amish and Mennonites. History unfolds as you explore a 17th century sailing ship and replicas of a 19th century print shop, meeting house and Amish home. Experience the simulation of a tornado as the wind blows and the theatre shakes.   • Essenhaus Inn and Resaturant - Enjoy the beautiful Essenhaus grounds!  Relax on a horse drawn carriage ride around the immaculate grounds, play a round of miniature golf, or go shopping in one of several Village Shops  all at the same facility grounds.  Shop for quilts, baked goods, home décor, ladies apparel, Vera Bradley, jewelry and more.  • Backroads Heritage Trail Tour - Learn about the fascinating lifestyle of the Plain People known as the Ana-Baptists.  Learn about the fascinating lifestyle of the Amish as your knowledgeable guide tells all about the area and the history, traditions, and customs of the Amish.  • Silver Star Leather - See their skilled artisans work with custom & exotic materials to create top-quality leather goods including belts, wallets, purses, handbags, keychains, and more. We work with top-grain leather and exotic materials such as alligator, crocodile, shark, stingray, and a wide assortment of other hard-to-find hides. • E and S Sales Bulk Foods - The area’s largest bulk food store.  Spices, dried grains, candies, soup mixes, homemade noodles, nuts, snacks and unusual items you can’t find just anywhere. • Sonshine Baskets - Their family works together weaving handwoven baskets, featuring real leather handles and fabric liners. They create 70+ styles in several stain colors. See a demonstration and have time to shop. • Amish Wedding Feast - It’s a once of a lifetime experience feasting on a traditional Amish wedding dinner in the charming setting of “The Carriage House”. Elaine and her son Seth explain what an Amish wedding day is like complete with this special meal that would be traditionally served by the Amish to their wedding guests.
